Advertisement placement on your website is CRUCIAL to generating revenue using Adsense. If you place a Google Adsense Ad block in a spot that no one is going to look at then it’s obvious no one is going to click the ad right?
Adsense Ad Block’s should be embedded into the website using the same colors, font and text size as your already existing content. This makes the visitor feel that the Ad block is a part of the website when indeed its not thus resulting in higher clicks. In all technicality; this can be called “deception” using such techniques are not in violation of the Google Adsense Terms of Use. Google actually encourages publishers to blend the advertisements into the content to raise your CTR (Click Through Ratio) thus make more money.
What is CTR? Click Through Ratio; AKA: CTR is the statistic showing the percent of all visitors that clicked on an advertisement. For example, your website gets 100 page views and one page view resulted in an advertisement click, this would give you a 1% CTR as 1% of all your traffic is clicking the advertisement(s).
A properly designed website utilizing Google Adsense should have Ad blocks placed in specific area’s that visitors often times look at first. To gauge how well specific area’s of a website result in higher Click Through Ratio; an Advertisement Heat Map has been created to display the hot spots.
Placing Adsense Ad blocks in hotter color area’s on the heat map can result in higher click through ratio thus generating more money. Be careful when placing Google Adsense Ad blocks because placing Ad Blocks in bad spots could result in your visitors losing interest in your website thus decreasing your traffic and advertisement revenue.
Shown below is the heat map picture which shows you the optimal locations to place your advertisements to generate the most revenue using Google Adsense.

Adsense Ad block placement experimentation on your website is key to learning which locations on your website attracts more attention then others due to themes and colors thus generating a better CTR and more money.
Don’t be fooled, size does matter. I’m referring to Google Adsense Ad Blocks that is… Statistics show that the Wide Sky Scrapper (160×600) and the large rectangle (336×280) have the best CTR and payout. Its common to embed the wide sky scrapper in a side bar location and the large rectangles at the beginning of the content. The heat map shows that the top left part of the content is the most viewed area on the page. This is obviously the best spot to place a large rectangle.
Using Google Adsense Channels which will be discussed on the Using Google Adsense Channels page will help you track your Adsense Ad Block(s) statistics such as click through ratio, clicks and payout amounts on a day to day basis.
